Visas for World Youth Day
Sydney 2008
Who is this visa for?
World Youth Day (WYD) will be hosted in Sydney from 15-20 July 2008.
To attend World Youth Day you will need to lodge a visa application. Three options are available:
- ETA: Electronic Travel Authority
- Electronic Tourist visa subclass e676.
- Paper application: Tourist Visa subclass 676
The correct option will depend upon your nationality.
As a registered pilgrim you will be entitled to apply for your visa free of Australian Government visa application charges by following the processes detailed below.

How to apply
1. ETA passport holders
If you hold an ETA-eligible passport you will be eligible to travel to World Youth Day on this electronic visa (see www.eta.immi.gov.au to check if you are eligible).
After you have registered yourself at the website www.wyd2008.org your ETA application will be sent automatically to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Australia. You will then be notified by email of the outcome of your application.

2. Other EU citizens
If you are not eligible for an ETA but are a citizen of a European Union country, you are eligible to submit an online Tourist visa (subclass e676) application. You should not apply for an online Tourist visa if you are eligible for an ETA.

3. Paper application
If you are unable to apply for your ETA or your e676 visa online, you must make a paper visa application at our office. Please follow the steps below.
NOTE: TO ASSIST IN EFFICIENT PROCESSING OF APPLICATIONS FOR WORLD YOUTH DAY, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION AFTER 1 JUNE 2008.
(a) Register online to attend World Youth Day. see www.wyd2008.org
(b) Print a copy of the application form 48R – see:www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/48r.pdf. Complete all questions and sign it.
(c) If you are under 18 years of age, print out a copy of the parental consent, Form no. 1229 – see: www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1229.pdf, and ask your parents or guardians to complete it.
You will also need to submit evidence of your relationship with your parent/ guardian (for example, a copy of your extract birth certificate showing the names of both parents) and a copy of identification for your parent/ guardian showing their signature (for example, a passport).

(d) Attach the following supporting documentation to your application:
• your valid passport in original;
• 2 passport sized photographs (no more than 6 months old);
• evidence that you will be able to support yourself while in Australia. This could include any fundraising you have undertaken, bank statements for a bank account in your name for at least three months prior to the application, or evidence of financial support from a sponsoring organisation or family member/ relative;
• evidence of current and ongoing educational enrolment and/or employment in your current country of residence;
• Valid Stay of permit in italy in original, please provide also a simple photocopy.
• information regarding the means by which you wish to have your passport returned to you (for example by pre-paid courier or by registered mail). Should you wish to use the mail service please send an A5 size envelope with your address on it and 4.05 Euros of stamps;
• applicants from the former socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia born between 1930 and 1985 are also required to complete a declaration. Please contact our office to receive a copy of this declaration.
(e) Print a copy of the World Youth Day coversheet, which you obtained when registering on the World Youth Day website, complete it and attach it to your application.
(f) Please lodge your application with all supporting documents at our office - please ensure your application is complete and well documented to avoid unnecessary delays. Our preferred method of lodgement is by mail or courier. For our address and contact details see: About us.
